AF-S Nikkor 17-35 mm f2.8

Post by Sparkey »

I have always loved these old metal war horses over their plastic replacements. Have been reading many articles as to whether they work or don’t on today’s FX Nikons. Very rare for them to appear on used lists over this side.
What you think Jon ?

I have never used this lens. I think it has a good reputation, but I don't know that much about it. Check out what users have said here: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/ ... nYQAvD_BwE
Great for interior architectural and landscapes By Dave: I've been using this lens with my D200, D300, D300S, D3 and now my D850 for a total of 11 years and remain satisfied with its performance. This camera has produced some of my favorite landscape photos as well as making some photos for an interior decorator possible. It's high quality and versatile.

It’s a bit pricey to rush out and buy. There have been mechanical motor problems amongst others over the years.
Discontinued and brought back from the dead cause the Pro’s wanted it. Funny Nikon never rang me.........

Some great reviews there from people who have bought this lens and used it professionally on a daily basis.

Bhphoto is where I buy 99% of my photography items. I'm sure that you noticed that they are in NYC. I don't have a local camera store.

Even if I do not buy an item, I use their customer reviews to evaluate something that I am considering.

Today, I ordered the following from them, and they said it should be here by Monday:

Vello Universal Accessory Shoe Mount
VECS
In Stock QTY: 1 Price: $6.99

Pearstone Stereo Mini Male to Stereo Mini Female Extension Cable (Black) - 25'
PEMMSB125B
In Stock QTY: 1 Price: $6.99

Nikon ME-1 Stereo Microphone
NIME1M
In Stock QTY: 1 Price: $134.00

Vidpro LED-330X Variable-Color On-Camera LED Video Light Kit
VILED330X
In Stock QTY: 1 Price: $87.94

This will be used with my D800 to create a video of my wife. She has written a book, and this video will go on her book's web site.

Yes Jon I have researched the values of this lens for weeks. Considered the benefit of buying second hand and decided against it as the later versions of this lens had modified motors. It’s the sister of my 28-70 f2.8 and also made in metal and not plastic.
As both cameras in use here are FX models there is no point in me buying DX lenses. Heading out later this morning to try it out but am stuck for time today.
