The only camera that has a 'grip' is my D2x!

I do like the feel of it though.....

I obviously have a grip on my D3 and one came with my D810 I kinda like them as gives a more secure hold on camera when you have heavy glass on front of it. Portrait buttons and extra battery are a bonus too. I hate charging battery at 50 per cent.

I had one problem with the grip on the D2x. If the portrait button was enabled, I kept hitting that shutter release by accident while just carrying the camera. Some weird images as a result!

I actually prefer the size of a camera without the grip. Less weight to carry.

I accept your opinion that you prefer less weight so no grip.

Just for the record you can turn off the shutter button on the grip when not using portrait position.

Yes, but I have hit the button while carrying the camera, and turned that release back on. So, I then manage to take random photographs....

What I did to prevent those random images, was to put tape over that switch/control. That fixed my problem.

Due to Covid the D500 returned home.
It’s a great camera but when compared to full frame cameras I prefer my D3 and D810.

I have heard great things about the D500. Never did buy one. I still have a D300 though.
