Does the output from Nikon Speedlight change with f stop ?

In other words is it stronger at f8 cause bigger area in focus than say f 2.8 ?

I don't know how the flash adjusts the camera but have noticed that it adjusts either the camera or it's self regardless what the camera is set to so the exposure is correct everytime. Now how is that for a sentence? can you read it with one breath?

Was at poorly lit hall for bike show at weekend and thought that shots should be better lit.

I find that I use aperature priority on the camera, with an f-stop of about 5.6. Things seem to work better. With smaller aperatures, I get what you have in this sample image.
