Talbot.DOF: Revision History

Version 1.00 - Sat Oct 7 17:31:22 UTC 2006:
Added the Nikon D80 to the list.

Modified the installation to use the Microsoft Windows Installer.

Version 0.08 - Sun Jan 8 08:00:00 EDT 2006:
Added the Nikon D200 to the list.

Version 0.07 - Thu Oct 6 13:14:58 EDT 2005:
Added the 'Tools->Depth of Field Chart' menu item. This item will allow you to select a number of distances and fstops, and then generate a depth of field chart. The chart can be printed, so that you can take it into the field with you.

Modified the 'Tools->Hyperfocal Chart' report control to be more readable, and to contain grid lines, that allow you to easily follow the data.

The printed reports now contain more descriptive information about the values used to generate the data in the chart.

Modified the 35 mm CofC reference selection to allow a smaller starting value of 0.0050. This will allow greater flexibility in fine tuning the values being output.

Version 0.06 - Sat Oct 1 20:26:38 EDT 2005:
Added the 'Tools->Hyperfocal Chart' menu item. This item will allow you to select a number of lenses and fstops, and then generate a hyperfocal chart. The chart can be printed, so that you can take it into the field with you.

Version 0.05 - Mon Sep 26 13:53:09 EDT 2005:
Added the '35 mm CofC Reference (0.0310 mm default)' label, and combobox. By changing this value, you will change the circle of confusion for the selected camera/film. This will allow you to fine tune the calculations. The derived CofC for a selected camera/film is based on the following formula:

camera_film_coc = 35mm_ref_coc / crop_factor

Added the 'Enter Close-up Lens Diopter' label and edit box. Use this to calculate the combined focal length that will then be used to calculate the adjusted depth of field. The display to the right of this entry field shows the calculated focal length of the prime and close-up lenses together.

Now, when changes are made to the selected data in the comboboxes, the calculation is immediately updated.

Note: If you have a previous version of this program installed on you system, you should delete it, and its talbotdof.ini file, before installing the new version. The old version of the ini file is not compatible with the new program.

Version 0.04 - Sat Sep 24 18:06:04 UTC 2005:
Renamed the program to 'Talbot.DOF'. Added a menu to the dialog screen, that contains 'File->Exit' and 'Help->About'. Hitting the 'Enter' key no longer aborts the program. Removed the 'CoC = n.nnn mm' selections in the first combobox. Added/updated the following cameras/films to the first combobox:

Added a camera/film database, that allows you to click on the '(Info)' label, and see data specific to the camera/film you have selected. Also changed the data entry validation. You can now enter in any value for the distance to subject. There are no validation pop-ups for out of range values. Instead, the display for near and far focus limit values, are set equal to the near focus value, and the total depth of field is calculated as zero. This appears to be a standard way of handling this situation.

The program now creates an initialization file in the same directory where the program file resides. This file maintains the state of the data between sessions. In other words, the data that you previously selected, the last time you ran the program, is selected the next time you run the program.

Version 0.03 - Sun Sep 18 16:59:30 UTC 2005:
The program is now 'Locale' aware. The decimal point for data entry is determined by the codepage of the user's country. The normal decimal point for the USA, is the period (.). But, for Finland, it is the comma (,). The program will also use the correct symbol for display messages, and data output.

Version 0.02 - Fri Sep 16 18:25:30 UTC 2005:
Removed the 'Cancel' button, since nothing gets canceled when exiting the program using this button.

Added the display of 'Total Depth of Field'. This is calculated by subtracting near limit DOF from far limit DOF.

Added 'inches' and 'centimeters' to the units selection box.

Added additional validation routines to check for undefined value limits.

Version 0.01 - Mon Sep 12 20:58:44 UTC 2005:
First coding to provide Depth of Field Calculator functions.
