Nikon UR-E12 lens adapter

Can any one tell me what a Nikon UR-E12 lens adapter is used for. I have an idea that it may allow me to use different brand of lenses. Will it fit a Nikon D40?

Jo,

This adaptor is only for the Coolpix line of P&S Nikon cameras. It is not made for, nor does it work on the Nikon D40.
