Mercury batteries have been banned in the States. So, if you have an older camera (film), or exposure meter that uses them, you need this replacement.
I have an old Weston Ranger 9 exposure meter that can be used with the Zone System. It used the banned battery.

I seem to remember them in an old Nikon FE film camera that I had.
