Test of cut down 8x10 inch x-ray film

Post by jon.oman »

I cut four sheets of 4x5 inch film from one sheet of 8x10 inch x-ray film. I needed to see if I would get any scratches in the cut film. Well, I am happy to say that I did not! I wanted to use the cut down film with my Shen-Hao 4x5 field camera. Anyway, here are the test images:

These were processed in full strength D76, for 7 minutes and 15 seconds at 64 degrees F.

How do you focus the camera using this type of film?

Nothing special. You focus it like any other film. As a result, the emulsion towards the lens is in slightly better focus than the emulsion on the back side of the film. That can reduce sharpness a bit.

Some people strip the emulsion off of the back side. I don't think that is needed....

That rail fence makes the photo look old. Got to leave for the Doc office in a half hour. Will find out how the x-rays look.
