180mm ED Lens

Post by kilm53 »

My son decided to buy a 180mm F2.8 ed lens for sport photography instead of the 70-300mm VR lens..

He tried it out at the football last weekend..:link to my Smugmug:

It seems to work ok..iso was a bit high as light wasnt too good, overcast most of the day..

Let me know what you think/

I can see that he was fighting the poor light. That f2.8 would help more than the 70-300VR at its widest. It looks like your son was right at the sidelines? How much cropping did he need to do? I bet in the end, he would like to have the 300mm f2.8!

No cropping Jon straight out the camera, he touched a few up in Photoshop but no cropping for them either..he posted them on a football forum he is in and they all like them..He would love the 300mm F2.8 and so would I.. ;) ;)

He had a press pass for the day and was sat just too the left of the goals a few feet behind the touch line, he was working with the lady photorapher from the Rangers Footall Club...

Here is some of her shots...

She had a 300mm or 400mm lens :-)

I would love to have the 300 f2.8 myself! Right now, I am saving for the 300 f4 AFS. I've seen some great things with this lens, but I don't think it is fast enough for sports, since it is an f4.

Can you imagine being able to afford a 500mm or 600mm AFS VR?!

Only in my dreams!
